  • British Mills Bomb 36M - dated 1940 - Deactivated - originally designed by William Mills in 1915

traces of white paint remaining in crevices (can be seen in our pictures) leaves us to believe this grenade was used as a practice grenade

7sec fuse which was too long and later changed to a 4sec, perhaps why this one ended up as a practice grenade - a throw of 15 Metres could be acheived but the range of its lethal fragments was greater

It is a myth that the casing was grooved to aid fragmention it was to aid grip, and in practice it has been demonstrated it not shatter along the segmented lines

The much more formidable 75mm tank gun, proving lethal to the Panzer III and IV, was initially fitted to the M3 'Grant Tank', later the M4 'Sherman', M24 'Chaffee', and by 1944 the British Cromwell and Churchill tanks. Adapted for use in the B-25H Mitchell bomber as the M5.
