ref: brm-cumberlandaa A group of 4 WW2 Royal Navy Medals - Royal Navy Long Service & Good Conduct Medal named "M.38967 T.G. Wilcox SY. P.O. H.M.S. Cumberland", War Medal, 1939-1945 Star, Atlantic Star, embroidered badge, King's Badge Senior Petty Officer T.G. Wilcox served onboard H.M.S.Cumberland Feb 1939 to Jan 1941, during which H.M.S. Cumberland was involved in the Battle of the River Plate and the sinking of the Graf Spee 18 Dec 1939 and the unsuccessful bombardment of Dakar Sept 1940. Ill, he was interned in Rio de Janairo 29.1.1941 suffering from TB, sent home (hence the King's Badge) and released from Service in 1946. RING VX28339', comprising of 1939-1945 Star, Africa Star, Pacific Star, Defence Medal, 1939-1945 War Medal, 1939-1945 Australia Service Medal, the three stars retaining all of their original plating. Material:- the 3 stars are plated bronze and the other 3 medals are cupronickel which complies with Austialia's Customs and Excise import directives. Ring's actions would have included fighting against the Afrika Corps - the 9th Division forming the larger part of the garrison during the siege of Tobruk entitling him to the Africa Star. After the fall of Singapore Australian Troops were recalled for defence, but Ring having earned the Pacific Star would have had to have served in a theatre of war outside of Australia, most likely against the Japanese in New Guinea, |

Only available as part of the collection of Air Gunner Bassett 280 Squadron, Coastal Command see "Allied Uniform & Equipment" - unused original period ribbons not a modern replacements Only one of 3 campaign medals could be awarded to bomber crews "Atlantic Star (Sept 39 to May 45) " or "Air Crew Europe (Sept 39 to June 44)" or the "France & Germany Star (June 44 to the end of the war in Europe)", which ever medal was awarded first was the only one allowed, in Air Gunner Bassett's case the Atlantic Star, then the addition of only one clasp to the medal was permitted (in this case the France & Germany Clasp) shown on the ribbon bar by the addition of a rosette.
