Add postage & packaging, rate D if required - UK only (for outside UK please email) ref: tr-ncojapsw1f-1215 JAPANESE WWII SHIN-GUNTO NCO's SWORD - both blade and scabbard stamped with matching numbers 40558, hilt stamped with marks for the Kokura Arsenal - an impressive sword in nice order There is much debate relating to these chrome plated scabbard examples and there are quite a number of them around. One opininion is that the scabbards were chrome plated at a later date - having worked in a plating plant our feeling is that this is unlikely, the chrome plating was almost certainly applied at the time of manufacture as only the scabbard was plated and individualy to each component. in addition the is no evidence that the more usual paint finish was ever applied there is not a single spot or chip of paint to be found anywhere on any part of the sword, or any evidence of any attempt at removing paint. Or any evidence of dis-assembly. We know KYO-GUNTO swords for colonial use and swords for use by the Police are often found with chromed scabbards, early chromium plated SHIN-GUNTO swords are rarer and we feel were probably intended for ceromonial parade use any further comment or information we would be interested in. Blade Length: 27.75ins (70.5cm) Overall Length: 38ins (96.5cm) |
