  • Victorian British 1854 Gothic Hilted Light Infantry Officer's Sword

    Retailed by P. Hammonds of 33 Richmond Terrace, Clifton, Bristol

    The term "Gothic Hilt" derives from a perceived similarity between the curved bars of the guard and the arches found in Gothic Architecture.

    Officers of the Rifle Regiments were considered somewhat of an elite and were authorised to carry their own version of the sword with the Crown and stringed buele motif of the Light Infantry replacing the Royal Cypher.

    All original and complete - hilt - scabbard.

  • American Civil War 1840 Pattern Sabre (Wristbreaker) - ripe for restoration - Once the hilt is rebound and rewired a great Confederate Sword

    By the time of the Civil War the Northern States were highly organised and the majority of their weapons bore marks of the Amoury from where they were issued

    The Southern States were not so hightly organised and weapons did not bear Armoury marks - any marks tended to be personalised - this one is marked to the finger guard with a number and letter

    Leather originally covered the wooden core of the hilt and some remains - scabbard condition.

  • A 19th Century Russian Kindjal, the 47.25cm double edged steel blade with a deep narrow fuller to each side,

    Black stained wood grip and leather covered scabbard with coiled steel suspension loop.

    These weapons were used as Cossack side arms - this example is of the period used in the Napoleonic Wars

  • 19th Century Naga Kachin Dao Head Hunting Sword - High Carbon Steel blade - Hilt with brass collar, silver overcollar, red lacquered grip and bone lozenge pommel

    Used by the Naga hill peoples on the Assam/Burmese border who practiced headhunting and preserved the heads of enemies as trophies throughout the nineteenth century. This did not endear them to the British Colonial Authorities who mounted various military expeditions against them.

    Original undamaged condition condition with nice aged patina.

    with punch decoration of two bands of scalloping, the brass mounted hilt with steel disc guard, pommel and bone grip,
    with foliate carved wood scabbard.

  • A rare Marathai Firangi - 17th Century - Long 38ins (98cm) single edge steel blade with three fullers to the top edge both front and rear - strengthening straps to the ricasso - the Hindu basket hilt with panelled guard and knuckle bow baluster grip - disc shape pommel with central spike.

    "Firangi" is derived from the Arabic for 'Westerner' or 'Frank' as the blades were imported into India from Europe by early Potuguese traders

    A long bladed weapon used by Marathas Cavalry famed for their prowess
